In July and August 2006, fourteen talented teenagers came together to study the craft of essay writing at a "nerd camp" in upstate New York. This is our blog. Bow.

a release and diving in again

just as the title says....FRESHMAN YEAR is finally deemed OVER with a gigantic red marker and a huge sigh of relief. summer school started....the day after school let out for me, but that's okayyy dokayyy because being idle is bad according to saint benedict/saint francis/saint dominic...i dunno, school has become a blur.

lol actually it was benedict. but it was really creepy. today, i was walking around summer school, and this school has a tradition where the seniors carve like, a wooden plaque and they put it on the walls. so this one guy carved adam/god's hand from the creation of adam ( i think thats what its called...) by raphael. and i was like OMG I KNOW THAT. CREATION OF ADAM YESSSSSS. st. peter's basilica? i think. *sigh* school is overrrr.

haha for US history honors, we're reading killer angels, by michael shaara. has anyone read it? i also have to read like, 2 massive essays and another reading. its going to be greaaaatt.

my elbow is itchy itcherss..

when's cty...2 days? i dont remember. my other friend who's going said sumthing abt it. he was counting down, but i dont remember what number he was on.

WHO'S EXCITED FOR HP 7/5?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??

Summer, at last!!!

Hey everyone. i'm very relieved today. i took my bio final and although a couple of questions got me for a second, it was incedibly easy compared to what the teachers built it up to be. man, they really like to stress us out, don't they? :)

well, my summer has officially started. i've been just kinda lazing around for the past week, studying for the regents. but it's all over now!!! no more school stuff to think about till september.

im soooo excited for CTY. less than a month now, i can't wait!!! & i am sooo jealous of you amelia, going to ireland has got to be really cool. so yea i'm loving sleeping in and catching up on my reading. you guys are so right, everythig piles up in may and july. my spring soccer season is almost over, but my team's having these practies/pick-up games every sunday, and a couple of times a week we have practices to get us in shape for preseason in the fall. and yes, soccer has completely taken over my life :)

So that's about it from here

Random Thoughts

This is just something I typed up, actually as part of a letter, but I thought you guys might be interested in reading it.

Many people have asked me what I want to do when I grow up, and why on earth I would want to go to college at such a young age. I’ve come up with my answer, partially, although I haven’t told many people because most of the people who ask such questions don’t know me particularly well. But I’ve come up with what I think is my main goal in life, one that can never be completely accomplished, just fulfilled to the best of my ability.

My dream, my goal, is to be able to understand anyone who comes to me. Whether they have a problem that they need help with, a story to tell, or just need a friend to talk to, I want anyone to be able to come to me or at least to look at the work I do and understand that somewhere, someone out in the world understands how they’re feeling. Everything that I enjoy doing would fall under this category, whether communicating on a large range by singing, writing, or painting or on a person to person basis by learning different languages.

But behind all these methods of communication, is the want to understand as many things about the world as I can. Because I believe that to some extent, everyone is shaped by the world around them, they’re influenced by past events and understanding these events is the key to understanding the person themselves. As much as I can learn about different cultures, about the history of different cultures, and the mindsets of different areas gives me that much more ability to understand different people.

Stupid Power. (Origionally: YAY! The blog has AWAKENED!!!)

I was almost done writing a really long post about what's up with my life when the POWER WENT OUT. Actually, it didn't even really go out. It just flickered for like half a second. But the computer turned off and my whole million page post was LOST. So I'll try to re-create it as best as I can from memory:

YAY! The blog has AWAKENED!!!

It kind of died for a little while there. Cause May/June is all like crazy-busy-finals-ahhh!!! everything on the planet seems to happen in those two months. But now school is over!!! Except for regents. And I have projects due over the summer for a science class I'm taking next year. And a billion AP global HWs that a kind sophomore gave me because the teacher is insane and never assigns HWs until like the day before they're all due causing massive stressfulness. And track starts back up the first week of July.

Then I'm GOING TO IRELAND!!!!!!!!

I did mention this. Repeatedly, actually. But I'm say ing it again cause i'm just that excited. I mean, CTY= yay! and Ireland= yay! and CTY *in* Ireland= WOOHOO!!!! I'm taking novel writing. I think I mentioned that, too. Then afterwards my family is meeting me and we're going on this cool adventure tour of Ireland which ivolves riding around in these fun little jeep/van things. It shall be uber fun.

Let's see... what's new in my life? This morning I ran a race... not with track, I just did it with some friends "for fun". We must have really twisted minds to find the pain that you go through in a race fun. But it's not really the actual running part that's fun it's like *after* the race. But anyway, I PRed for a 5k by like a minute and a half (even if that's just because I haven't done one since november) and I was third in my age category.

Yesterday I went to my sister's awards ceremony cause she took the test for baby CTY (she's in 5th grade). She's not going to the camp this summer, though, because she's "just a baby!" and because it wouldn't really work with Ireland. But It's kind of cool that she qualified.

Then there were a couple of days last week when I just hung out and was like "Yay! No school!" and before that was Wednesday which was the last day of classes. We still have to go in on the 27th for report cards but that's only for like an hour. Of couse, then I have a meeting for that science class I'm taking next year, but those aren't bad.

Okay, that's most of the post. I think I re-created it pretty faithfully. Then there was one more paragraph in which I described the last week of May as an example of that crazy-busy-finals-ahhh!!! thing, but to sum it up: 3 track meets (!!), bio final, english final, bio project due, sister's concert at carnegie hall, my spring concert (the same day as one of said track meets), and all the usual HW.

And that's all, folks. I'm going to bed.

I'm baa-aack

Sorry guys!!! I haven't posted in basically forever, or even replied to any of your things, but it's cause I couldn't log in cause of the change to the weird google accounts and whatnot, not cause I was lazy! Well, partially cause I was too lazy to try figuring out how to get a new account...

Well, it's good to hear your lives are going fairly well. Summer's well on its way- it's regents week, so my last technical day of school was Tuesday, and now I only have to come in on exam days or if I'm going to review. I only have two regents this year, math B and biology, and my math one I took Thursday, so all I've got left is biology this Wednesday, and once I'm done with that it is officially summer vacation. Wooh!!!

I got into my writing camp again this year, so I'm majorly psyched about that. Can't wait for it. I'm not going to CTY, though- I kind of wanted to take "Crafting Fiction" or another of those writing courses, but last summer I think was too much for me with all the stuff I was doing, and I feel bad costing my parents money, so I'm gonna spend the whole summer writing instead of learning about writing. I'm hoping to finish my story-child which has been a work in progress for... going on four years now... cough... that's not really long... I'm sorry, I have a short attention span! I hope you guys have fun again up here in majestic upstate new york, though!

Um... I think I mentioned last time I posted about our Whose Line is it Anyway rip off. It went really really well- not a whole lot of people came, but those who did thought it was awesome. I was sposed to be an alternate, but our director ended up just letting me and the other alternate be in it anyways.

Urgh, a couple of weeks ago I took the SAT subject tests for math and biology. Gross. I'm still waiting on my results.

Been reading lots of books, got a sunburn yesterday (ouch.), READY FOR SUMMER!!!

lucky ducks

y'all are luky ducks...those of you who have finished school, at least. i still have two more finals to go, and i dont finish until wednesday, but then im out...free for the next...2 months? ya too bad though, cuz i start summer school like, the day after real school ends, soo woohooo, no break. but ya kno whats awesome? my parents are bringng me to minado, which is this amazzzinggg japanese restaurant where there's a huuuge line of sushi and a crapload of other seafood. soo good. and its in natick, which is like SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPINGGGGGG.

mm not going to cty this year, but those of you who are, have fun! i should go back to studying for history/geo.

haha my neighbors are having a party, and there's a bunch of girls in like, swimming stuff...now they're playing basketball.

okey dokeyy. have nice summers, all of you!

suuuuuuuummer vacation

Hey guys. I've actually been on summer vacation for over a week now, but I just haven't posted yet cause I'm stupid. I've been having like a burst of creativity because during the school year I never get to do anything creative. I've started writing two pages (one of which is around 7 pages at the moment), made two blankets, a skirt, and almost finished an AWESOME pair of pants. You know the pants that I where that are all patchy bright and colorful? well I'm making one of my own except all the patches are smaller and it isn't put together as well, but it's still cool and it's taking me forever. Now all I have left is to finish half of the bottom of one of the legs.

Anyway, I'm really just sitting around until CTY as well. Except that I might go to Cape Cod for a few days around the fourth of july. But I'm going to CTY siena session 2 and I know Alydaar and Ben are going and Geeta's trying to and then a few other people I don't know so well. But what about you guys? I know almost everyone's posted about their CTY plans but I'm just an idiot have have forgotten :). i know Kelly's not going *tear tear* because she's going to China. But everyone else? Anyone to siena session 2?

Yeah, I'll try and post more now too because it's summer and I have nothing else to do.

i know i kinda died for awhile, but as everyone says, they're busy. but now i'm on summer break so i have a ton of time, mostly for enjoyment. i got out a week ago and went to two parties in the same day, one for our grade, the other was with some friends, and then i had to get up early in the next morning when we had our graduation. since then i haven't done much besides going to montreal for a few days, which was nice cus i went to a circ du soleil show, which was incredible. i'm now off until cty and a golf camp i'm doing. i'll try to keep posting with interesting stuff, but my life right now is pretty boring, but enjoyable.

End of School!!!

Im so excited that i'll be seeing some of you guys for cty this summer!!! and congrats on college and all the scholarships, Miranda. that's really good. yea so school's almost over, just next week till thursday and then it's 3 days of finals. it sucks though, because we're still required to come into school those days, even if we're exempt from them. but whatever, after tuesday, it's a week off, the bio regents, and then no school till september!!!! i'm soo excited.

Do any of you guys have to march at parades and stuff with your band? if you do, i am sooooo sorry. we had to do 2 memorial day parades, and it was like 90 degrees out. the uniforms are crazy hot, and our overlays like choke us to death. it's sooo bad. lol

Well, just checking in. hope everyone's enjoying the weather!!! :)
